My Norwalk juicer won't start?
I turn my juicer on and nothing happens
A: Firstly, ensure the juicer is properly plugged in and the following possible issues have been checked
1. Make sure the electrical outlet is functioning.
2. The ground fault hasn't been triggered.
3. The circuit breaker hasn’t popped on your circuit breaker panel.
B: Next, check that all safety mechanisms are correctly engaged.
1. Make sure the feed tube is securely in place, as Norwalk juicers have safety features that prevent operation if components are not correctly assembled.
2. Make sure the feed tube is installed with the right side up. We have customers call in quite frequently and feel they have it on the correct way. Remember, the grid tray is positioned under the cutter and the recess for the feed pan is at the top.
3. Inspect the power switch and cord for any damage.
The motor tries to start, but it just hums
A. Motor Start Capacitor
If the motor hums, but the cutter doesn’t rotate, Check the motor shaft for manual rotation. With the feed tube off and cutter removed, see if the shaft rotates freely. If the shaft rotates freely, put the feed tube back on with the cutter not installed. If the shaft can be rotated by hand, but the motor hums when turned on, this could potentially be the motor start capacitor.
B. Motor Internal Centrifugal Switch
If the motor hums, but the cutter doesn’t rotate, Check the motor shaft for manual rotation. With the feed tube off and cutter removed, see if the shaft rotates freely. If the shaft rotates freely, put the feed tube back on with the cutter not installed. If the shaft can be rotated by hand, but the motor hums when turned on, this could potentially be the motor internal centrifugal switch
If either one of these conditions exist, the motor must be removed and serviced by an electric motor service facility.
